You never know when goodness will pay off.

A few years ago I accompanied my wife to her high school class reunion. While there she met up with a young lady that remembered her on sight. We sat at her table along with her husband. As we all chatted, I brought up the fact that I competed in bass tournaments. Well the couple advised me that if I ever had a tournament on Lake Wateree that I was invited to stay at their home. They advised that they lived approximately 15-20 minutes from the lake. I told them that I would take them up on the offer one day.

Well the day recently came. I had an American Bass Anglers district championship I was competing in on Wateree and I contacted the couple and they reminded me that their house is open at any time. When I got there they treated me like family. Note now that I only met them one time and that had been at least 3-4 years ago.

After my first day of competition I came back to the house and showered and was entertained by their young daughter. She showed me all of her Girl Scout badges and patches. I was impressed. She pulled out all sorts of things. After the show I was blessed with a t-bone steak dinner. Wow! The master-griller grilled the t-bone perfectly!

After dinner my wife's classmate told me something that stuck with me. She told me that during her high school years she was picked on a lot because she was a little awkward (like we all were). She told me that my wife was one of the few people that were consistently nice to her. She expressed how much that meant to her. I told her that I liked my wife's niceness also.

We never know how, when, or where our goodness will be repaid. We also don't realize sometimes that someone is always watching us. Let's always strive to be nice with to folks because that could end up being a blessing on the whole family.
